POLICE say they’re ‘aware and dealing’ with an incident near Leicester City’s King Power Stadium, reported to be a helicopter crash involving the club owner’s aircraft.
It is understood Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s aircraft crashed in the car park outside the ground shortly after taking off.
Leicestershire Police have tweeted: “We are dealing with an incident in the vicinity of the King Power Stadium. Emergency services are aware and dealing.”
Leicester City played West Ham this evening in the Premier League.
Club chairman Srivaddhanaprabha, who has owned the club since 2010, normally attends games before taking a helicopter flight back to London.
As yet, it is unclear who was on board the helicopter during the incident.
One witness told Sky News: “I hope they’re okay. Doesn’t seem like they have had much of a chance. Just burst into flames.”
Witnesses told Sky Sports News the helicopter took off from the pitch but lost control within a few seconds and crashed the club’s staff car park.
East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust tweeted: “We are also in attendance and will update when possible.”
