THE latest online frauds to look out for are instant messenger scams.
These have recently been seen, most commonly, on WhatsApp.
Fraudsters send messages containing a link designed to obtain information from their victim.
The crooks trick people by making it look as if the message has come from a friend or loved one.
These messages often claim that various companies are offering discounts, encouraging you to click on the link to “receive your vouchers”.
The link will take you to a fake site which is designed to either obtain information from you, or infect your device with malicious malware.
This software tracks any movements you make on your device, so they can steal various log-in details.
The fraudster sends these messages out to thousands of people at a time.
If you click on the link, not only do you run the risk of having your details stolen or your device infected with malware, but the message will then be sent from your account to all your contacts.
