Singer Marc Almond has spoken of his love of Scotland after being revealed as the headline act for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebration.

The former Soft Cell frontman will perform alongside a string of other acts at the legendary Street Party on December 31.

Speaking ahead of the gig, Almond revealed he would consider living in the Scottish capital and hinted at the possibility of a new album with Soft Cell partner Dave Ball.

He said: “Scotland is such a great place and if I had to live anywhere in the UK other than London, it would be Edinburgh.

“The food is great, the people are so outgoing and the air is actually breathable, which it isn’t all in London.”

Following his Hogmanay date, Almond’s new solo album, Chaos and a Dancing Star, is released on January 31.

He also said Soft Cell, the band he formed with keyboard player Ball, would not perform again following a final gig in London last year, stating: “We will never do another concert.

“The sell-out at the o2 was, as promised, the final time. But we might record some new tracks together, even a new album might be on the cards – who knows?”

Synthpop duo Soft Cell formed in 1978 and became best known for their worldwide hit Tainted Love.
