These aren’t just any avocados… they’re M&S avocados!
Marks and Spencer have announced the launch of stoneless ‘Cocktail avocados’.
As well as lacking a pesky stone, the skin is edible so the whole fruit can be enjoyed without taking up a knife and risking ‘avocado hand’.
The new products are the result of an unpollinated avocado blossom.
The fruit develops without a seed which in turns stops the growth, giving a small, seedless fruit
The fruit is grown in Spain and only available during December, when usually it is sent to a Parisian food market and bought by chefs to be used in top end restaurants.
This year M&S have been able to source a small number the avocados exclusively
Charlotte Curtis, M&S agronomist, says: “We’ve had the mini, the giant, ready-sliced and we’re now launching the holy grail of avocados – stoneless!
“This amazing fruit has been on our radar for a couple of years and we’re very excited to have finally been able to get hold of some for our customers to try.
“We know they will be in demand and we’ve only been able to get our hands on a limited amount so make sure you get them while you can!”
M&S first introduced the fruit in 1968 as an ‘Avocado Pear’ which people would enjoy as a dessert with custard.
Cocktail Avocados are available in selected M&S stores now and throughout December, while stocks last, £2 per pack
