Widow Maggie Singleton, from Glasgow, is 69 – and loving life. The mum of two and gran of two is retired from her post as an arts officer. She loves spending time with her family and being active, as you can see from her favourite snaps…
Aussie rules!
My sister Sheena has lived in Australia for more than 40 years. She and her family are all Australian citizens. I have made many visits over the years and we always have Sister Road Trips to somewhere wild and different. Exmouth is beside the Ningaloo Reef, famous for miles of unspoilt, quite often deserted coastline, with amazing beaches and sea life. I had the chance to swim with whale sharks, the gentle giants of the sea, which was simply incredible. An unforgettable experience.
The line of duty
I’ve volunteered for the Celtic Connections Festival for the last four years. It keeps me thinking fast on my feet! Last year I volunteered at the European Championships Culture Programme and enjoyed a range of duties. It’s interesting to meet different people and interact with artists. These events help me to stay lively and in touch with what’s going on.
New York life
My daughter Kyla lives in New York with her partner Harry and works in a senior post with Kate Spade, the fashion house. Kyla studied at Caledonia University and worked in Glasgow for a number of years before moving to London and then to New York. She has done so well and loves her New York life. I visit her once a year and Kyla usually comes to join the family at Christmas. She loves living in Brooklyn and I feel completely at home there, too.
danceSing days
I have been going to danceSing since 2016. The classes are fun, friendly and a great way to meet people and take part in unusual events – from singing and dancing as the sun sets at the Kelpies on Summer Solstice, to a flash mob at Monachyle Mhor Festival. We’ve also been back singers on a charity single and sung in the BBC Live Radio tent at the Edinburgh Festival. I always feel energised after the sessions. It keeps me young.
