Life is never, ever dull for June McMahon.
If the 54-year-old gran of two from Midlothian isn’t trying the latest fitness craze or indulging her love of retro rock, she’s whizzing over to Las Vegas to renew her wedding vows.
And she very nearly ended up on prime-time TV in the States. Here, she takes up the story as she shows off her fave snaps…
Hustle’s no hassle
Highland Hustle is a Highland dancing-inspired exercise class that took off a couple of years ago. It’s fun, fast and it keeps you fit. My daughter, Charlene, signed up to be an instructor, so I went along to her classes and loved it. But when she was heavily pregnant with my grandson Ruaridh, now two, I decided to take over her classes to keep them going for her – and got hooked. So I trained with the founder Gillian Urquhart and I now run my own classes (St Leonard’s church hall, 7pm, Lasswade) every Thursday.
Holly’s a star
Remember that post on Facebook that went viral – 80 million views – of a little girl singing Bohemian Rhapsody? That was my granddaughter, Holly, now four. US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres got wind of it and wanted Holly on the show but Holly didn’t want to go. So Ellen showed the clip on her show – and half of America saw it!
Rockin’ the green
Well I have green hair at the moment because I went to Let’s Rock Scotland recently in Dalkeith – and I don’t think I read the instructions properly, as it’s not washing out and I’m going to Benidorm next week! Let’s Rock Scotland is just like the Rewind festival in Perth and I love going every year. It’s bands like Level 42, Big Country, Kim Wilde, Andy Bell of Erasure and Jason Donovan. He was amazing; great with the crowds. But my favourite was the Skids.
Family in focus
I have two other children, Danny, 33, and Nicole, 22. I’m married to John, 51, who I often joke should have “long-suffering” before his name! We’ve now been married for 28 years. John and I went to Las Vegas to renew our vows and had great fun. We had such an amazing time in the City of Lights and would love to go back again.
