THE glorious sunshine which was seen across the country at the start of the week is set to be replaced with torrential downpours heading into the weekend.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for most of Scotland between 9am and 10pm on Friday, predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Aberdeen, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland look like they’ll escape the worst of the conditions, but it’s looking like the rest of the country is in for a soaking.
A second weather warning covering a slightly smaller area is in place between 11am and 9pm on Saturday.
Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late morning, lasting through the afternoon before easing late evening.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “During these periods there is a risk of scattered showers, torrential downpours and severe thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and only easing through the evening periods.
“Not everywhere will see these however – eastern coasts may miss most of these with inland Scotland and western parts seeing the worst.
“Where they do occur, they are likely to bring very heavy downpours with the potential for 20-30mm of rainfall in an hour and perhaps as much 50-60mm in 3 hours, along with the risk of lightning and hail.”
