THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of northern Scotland as temperatures drop.
The warning is in place for 9pm this evening (Thursday) until 12pm on Friday.
Snow is expected to fall during that period, mainly on the hills.
Some roads are likely to be affected with longer journey times, mainly across higher routes.
The forecaster said: “Rain will turn to snow over higher hills during Thursday daytime and then to some lower levels during Thursday night.
“A few centimetres of snow may affect higher routes before a slow improvement follows during Friday daytime.
“At lower levels, snow will probably struggle to settle on tarmac and concrete surfaces. Some icy patches are also possible.”
Across the rest of the country, the Easter weekend looks to be a mixed bag weather wise, but it will definitely be a chilly one.
It’s likely to be dry and bright but cold in the west throughout Good Friday, with showers and scattered spells of sunshine for the whole country on Saturday.
Overnight into Sunday it will turn quite cold, with widespread frost expected.
Temperatures could drop to as low as -5 °C.
Sunday will be a day of sunshine and showers, before further rain is likely to move in from the south on Monday morning, which could bring further snow to northern hills as it heads north during the day.
