MUIRFIELD officials didn’t see the funny side this morning when they were forced to remove a giant sign attached to the entrance gates labelled ‘Welcome to Jurassic Park’.
The prank comes as Muirfield announced yesterday that they would hold a second vote on whether the club would admit female members.
The first ‘no’ result last May resulted in controversy, and also meant that the club was deemed no longer eligible to host The Open.
The tricksters behind the stunt are Paddy Power – who have predicted that the next vote result will also be a ‘no’. Odds are 1/2 for a no vote, and 6/4 for a yes vote.
A spokesperson from Paddy Power said:
“The decision last May to not admit female members was about as progressive as a Donald Trump policy, and unsurprisingly it’s driven a wedge between stuffy members and the outside world. While Muirfielld members bury their heads in the sand this time round, we thought we’d prod the beast with our Jurassic sign.
To be honest we were a bit scared when one of the dinosaurs stormed to take our sign down but overall it was a roaring success.”
