STAN LAUREL’S famous bowler hat is set to take centre stage in a new museum of popular entertainment.
The ‘“museum” on Blackpool’s famous Golden Mile will be the first in the country devoted to comedy, circus, magic and variety.
The town’s council has received an £8.4m funding boost for the project and is now looking to secure the rest of the cash that will allow it to open its doors in 2020.
As part of the project Stan’s famous bowler will join other rare showbusiness artefacts.
The hat was originally given to Blackpool magician Cyril Critchlow in June 1947 when film legends Laurel and Hardy played the town’s Palace Theatre as part of their British tour.
