Ruby McCall is a Dundee-based foodie who loves discovering new spots in and around the city.
Her Instagram page, @rubesfoodgram, is a world of yummy eats, but we asked her to branch out beyond food and pick her favourite places to visit in Scotland.
Here are those that made the cut…
Cromarty Cinema
One of the first spots that comes to mind when I think of my favourite places in Scotland is Cromarty.
One of the things you would least expect to find in the small village is a cinema. The community cinema opened its doors fairly recently in 2020 and is located in the most stunning spot by the water; you couldn’t find a cinema with better scenery than this one. Afterwards, you can grab a delicious wood-fired pizza from Sutor Creek just a minute away. There are some beautiful walks nearby as well.
Isle of Canna
The most beautiful place I have ever been in Scotland would have to be the Isle of Canna. The weather was definitely on our side whilst we were here; the beach resembled a tropical paradise.
We stayed in a wooden pod on a campsite which had everything we needed, and meant we could wake up to spectacular views each morning. If you can brave the cold, the clear blue water tempts you in for a swim. It is the perfect place for a peaceful retreat and to reconnect with nature.
Parlour Cafe
One of my favourite Scottish cities will always be Dundee. I have got to know it well since moving to there for university. One of the things that stands out to me is its food and drink scene. For a small city that you can easily walk around, it has a lot of great food!
One of my favourites is Parlour Cafe on West Port. It’s one of the best places for lunch, with lots of fresh local ingredients, and always has such a good selection of sweet treats to choose from.
