Caroline is based in Edinburgh

When she isn’t trying out and reviewing all the best foodie spots in Edinburgh, you’ll likely find Caroline Mair by the coast.

When we asked her to choose her top three favourite places to visit in Scotland, she didn’t hesitate before heading for the seaside.

I’ll never pass up a visit to my hometown.

I might be a little biased having grown up here, but I truly believe Cullen is one of Scotland’s most beautiful towns. A perfect day starts with a walk along the beach, followed by coffee at The Kings—home to the best hot chocolate and coffee in Scotland. An absolute must-visit.

St Abbs

You can’t beat a stroll along the cliffs.

My favourite day trip from Edinburgh starts with a stop at Bostock Bakery for their twice-baked hazelnut pain au chocolat, followed by a drive along the coast to St Abbs. The walks along St Abbs Head and the cliffs offer stunning views of the sea and the most picturesque little village. Definitely my happy place.

There are plenty of places to explore.

A perfect summer day for me would start with a visit to Baern at Bowhouse for a coffee and end with a sunset chippy at The Wee Chippy in Anstruther. I wouldn’t leave Fife before taking a walk around Elie and the gorgeous beach there. I also love stopping off in Crail and popping down to the harbour, where there’s a lovely café with a stunning outdoor seating area and plenty of cake choices. There are so many hidden gems dotted around Fife, you could easily spend a week in the area.
