Catriona may be based in Glasgow, but you can find her all over Scotland walking the days away.

Keen to help “non-hikers” like herself to find beginner hikes with incredible views, she created her Instagram page Wee Weegie Hikes.

These are some of her favourite spots she has found along the way.

Grey Mare’s Tail

The Moffat Hills have my heart! And if chasing waterfalls, bounding through the heather and taking in the peaceful views on the banks of a beautiful Scottish loch sounds like a little piece of heaven to you, Grey Mare’s Tail won’t disappoint.

The adrenaline pumping route which passes the stunning 60m high waterfall (and equal drop into the ravine) is balanced out by the discovery of serene Loch Skeen at the end of the constructed path. The loch shore offers the perfect spot for an enjoyment break, a cuppa if you’ve brought one and an opportunity to immerse yourself the rugged, wild and beautiful surroundings before retracing your steps through the lush rolling hills, which is no hardship.

Hot Tottie Sauna

Set on the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, Hot Tottie Sauna in Luss is perfectly placed for relaxation and rejuvenation. Sauna sessions are booked in advance in 60 minute slots, during which time you can enjoy panoramic views across the loch.

The sauna is perfectly located by the shore and visitors are encouraged to jump in the water for a refreshing ‘dook’ in between sauna stints to gain all the health benefits of hot and cold therapy. This is a perfect retreat for body and mind and less than an hour from Glasgow.

Arisaig

Don’t miss the sunset. Image: Wee Weegie Hikes

Arisaig offers beautiful, gentle coastal walks along some of the purest white sands. If you’re lucky enough to catch the golden hour, you’re bound to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets you’ve ever seen.

I visited Arisaig on a campervan adventure and was lucky enough to pitch up at Sunnyside Croft Touring Site. This family-run campsite has direct access onto Bunacaimb beach, making it easy to enjoy a quick dip, a long walk, or a sunset barbeque minutes from your pitch.
