Tim Drew is a photographer and videographer based in the bustling city of Edinburgh.

Though he is most often found in the capital, Tim found that he also ventured beyond it when thinking about his favourite places to visit in Scotland.

Fhior

Dining at Fhior takes a bit of beating. Image: Tim Drew

I’ve been very fortunate to sample some of Scotland’s finest restaurants, but the unique and ‘true’ dining experience at Fhior, in Edinburgh’s New Town, may well take centre-stage.

Chef Scott Smith forages seasonal ingredients himself for his ever-changing tasting menus, with a scallop and kohlrabi dish alongside the fanciest prawn toast ever being the highlight of my last visit. If you’re ever looking for a dining treat, make sure to check out his monthly Mixtapes supper club, where I got to try new creations and dishes made using lesser available high-quality produce.

Isle of Arran

There’s plenty to do on Arran. Image: Tim Drew

There’s not many places I’ve visited on my travels around Scotland that have left me feeling truly sad about leaving more so than the Isle of Arran.

From stunning beachfront walks through Brodick, wild swimming in the Blue Pools after a hike up Goatfell, or the warm hospitality at The Douglas Hotel, it’s the perfect place to spend a long weekend (without needing a car).

Maryculter House

You can’t go wrong with a trip to this north-east gem. Image: Tim Drew

As a lover of history mixed with stunning views, there aren’t many better places to stay than 12th century hotel, Maryculter House.

With links all the way back to the Knights Templar, I’ve been lucky enough to see Maryculter in all seasons, and I’ve yet to be there and not be amazed by its beauty, especially while sitting in my favourite room in Scotland – The Great Hall.
