It’s no secret that Scotland is famous for its distilleries and the drams they produce.

So to celebrate, Scotland’s new premiere whisky festival, Whisky Week, is being held in Aberdeen this September.

More than 20 venues across the city have partnered with distilleries across the country to share its story and liquid, creating a walkable city-wide distillery tour. Attendees can therefore visit multiple ‘distilleries’ without having to travel to leave the city.

Gregor Sey of Cocktail Events UK is one of the masterminds behind the new festival, having already seen success with Aberdeen Cocktail Week. He let us in on the spots he’ll be heading to between September 5 and 15.

CASC

Have you been to this hidden gem?

I’ve been visiting CASC on Stirling Street in Aberdeen with my dad for years. It is somewhat of a hidden gem and everyone I recommend it to loves it.

Owner Paul West is always on hand to help and will happily share his extensive whisky knowledge with anyone who lets him. He’s had the bar since 2013 and it continues to be one of the best places for a dram in Aberdeen. CASC also has 28 draught lines so there’s always a good selection of beer to choose from, too.

Glenfiddich Distillery

There’s a reason why the Glenfiddich name is so widely known.

When it comes to impressive distilleries, Glenfiddich is definitely up there. It’s one of the world’s most respected whisky brands and boasts one of the largest distilleries in Scotland.

Located in Dufftown in Speyside, millions of bottles of the brand’s liquid are sold worldwide, and production is around the clock to ensure demand is met. They boast some great introductory drams but also experiment a lot with different casks, so there’s always something new and exciting to look forward to trying.

The Grill

There really is something for everyone at The Grill.

This Aberdeen institution boasts a huge whisky collection. It is so huge that it has over a staggering 500 bottles gracing its shelves. Almost every dram imaginable is here, meaning there really is something to suit all tastes.

Don’t let the exterior of The Grill on Union Street fool you. Behind those doors lies a treasure trove of drams that any whisky fan would love to get their hands on.
