When Lauren Taylor isn’t on shift as environment and transport reporter for The Press and Journal, she is out and about exploring the north-east.
Originally from Elgin but now living in Aberdeen, her wanders take her across Aberdeenshire, Moray and beyond.
She took us to her favourite spots for culture, coffee and a coastal stroll.
Museum of Scottish Lighthouses
See what it was like to live and work in a Scottish lighthouse at this Fraserburgh museum, but be sure to book a tour so you can go to the top of the lighthouse. And the view is so worth all the stairs.
Mount
This cracking little spot on Upperkirkgate in Aberdeen quickly became my go-to. The coffee shop just has the most relaxing, welcoming vibe, while the friendly team takes their time to craft the best, velvety smooth coffee in town. I personally think they serve up the best dirty chai latte.
Even better, the owners have opened a second cafe at Greyhope Bay — and if you’re lucky you might spot some dolphins from the large windows while enjoying a cuppa and a fancy piece.
Bow Fiddle Rock
Standing proudly off the coast of Portknockie is the magnificent Bow Fiddle Rock. Shaped by the force of the waves, it’s simply breathtaking to see in person and easy to find.
You can easily make it into the perfect little day trip by spending some time clambering the surrounding hills to get different views of the natural sea sculpture, or even just walking along the stunning Moray coast.
