We asked Beth for her top three favourite places to journey back in time.
Dunfermline Abbey
Dunfermline Abbey is the jewel in the crown of Scotland’s underrated historic sites. Once one of the most important religious institutions of medieval Scotland, at least seven Kings of Scots are buried here alongside countless other elite figures, including queens, princesses, princes, nobility, and even a royal saint. To visit this abbey is to walk in the footsteps of giants from Scottish history.
Corrieri’s
If you are looking for hearty Italian food and a relaxed atmosphere, make sure you visit Corrieri’s Café in Causewayhead, Stirling. This warm and welcoming café has been serving the people of Stirling authentic Italian dishes for over 50 years. With the National Wallace Monument towering on the hill above, Corrieri’s is well placed for exploring Stirling’s impressive history.
Abernethy National Nature Reserve
Found in the Cairngorms National Park, this precious nature reserve includes one of the largest areas of native Caledonian pine forests in Scotland. These ancient trees once covered much of Scotland but declined over the centuries due to human activity and increased deer populations. There is a stillness and atmosphere in this forest that speaks to its age-old past
