Jake and Molly Gilbert moved from Kettering to the Scottish Highlands during lockdown, ready for fresh air and a fresh start.
They found their dream fairytale cottage near Glen Affric and quickly fell in love with their new life, the proximity to nature and distance from hustle and bustle.
Both keen photographers, they set up NorthWest Photography to share the beauty of the Highlands and Scotland with the world.
Here are their favourite places they have found so far while exploring their new home.
The Three Chimneys
This has been on our bucket list since we moved up to the Highlands and saw what The Three Chimneys had to offer.
The magical Isle of Skye is always a joy, and a visit here really topped off a recent trip with a divine lunch of seafood straight from Loch Dunvegan, which we could see through the window from our table.
We can’t wait to go back for dinner and to stay at this special spot on the Duirinish peninsula.
Sandwood Bay
One of our favourite memories of 2022 was a day we spent hiking out to Sandwood Bay during a holiday up north. We got one of those beautiful days where there is nowhere better to be and it was spent with blue skies, white sand, endless dunes, and an ancient sea stack in a wild sea.
After the 4-mile walk out – it is only accessible by foot – we were rewarded with these views and ran straight into the water before spending a few blissful hours enjoying this peaceful beach with just a few other souls who had made the walk out.
Glen Affric
Our favourite place in the world and often argued to be the most beautiful Glen in Scotland; we feel incredibly grateful to have this so nearby to explore.
We can be found there most weekends for summer days swimming in Loch Beinn a Mheadhoin, afternoons taking photos or walking to the many viewpoints and trails, taking in it’s splendour all year round.
