Edinburgh-based Liv Connolly is a food, lifestyle and travel blogger exploring the capital and venturing beyond.

We asked her for her top three spots to visit so you can add them to your travel plans as a new month draws near.

Cocktail anyone? Image: Liv Connolly

This secret apartment speakeasy bar is located at the top of the W Hotel. It has a stunning interior, great atmosphere, funky Latino music and lovely views over Edinburgh from the roof terrace.

The cocktails are nothing short of exceptional, and the bar snack menu is carefully curated and freshly prepared to order; I highly recommend the cheese bread and black fried cod bites – wow!

Alandas Longniddry Bents

The perfect seaside spot. Image: Liv Connolly

Nestled in a car park overlooking the longest of East Lothian’s beaches is my favourite seasonal mobile food spot. Alandas serves the most unreal battered haddock and chips, grilled garlic king-prawns and other delicious menu items.

Two of my favourite dog-friendly beaches are also less than a 20-min drive away – Yellowcraig and Gullane – so it’s worth visiting them too.

Here & Now Pods

With uninterrupted views over the Stirlingshire countryside, these luxury glamping pods have become my go-to off grid happy place.

They’re dog-friendly with cloud-like beds, a kitchenette, en-suite, outdoor barbecue and fire pit – perfect to sit next to whilst sipping wine and admiring the starlit sky at night. Your very own private loch invites you in for a swim or paddle board, and if you’re lucky you’ll see some of the local deer herd too.
