NEW Aberdeen signing Sam Cosgrove hopes he can make his name at Pittodrie after landing a deadline-day move.
The 21-year-old Everton trainee has joined Derek McInnes side on a two-and-a-half year deal after securing a switch from Carlisle.
The striker is well aware he remains an unknown prospect for large swathes of the Dons support.
However, he now hopes to make a big impact in the months ahead after McInnes decided to bring forward his plans to sign him this summer on a pre-contract.
He told RedTV: “My name will not be too well known amongst the Aberdeen fans but hopefully once I settle in they will quickly know more about me.
“Hopefully I will give them something to cheer about.
“It seems a long time ago now when I was a youngster at Everton. I enjoyed my time there and it was a good place to learn your football.
“I am a physical presence up there, but I also like to get on the ball and do things technically.
“The past couple of months at Carlisle I have had to change my game a bit because I was always more of a technical player coming through development football but the demands of League Two in England, I have had to change my game and become that target man. I would like to think I have developed my game into that.
“I came into Carlisle in the summer and I have had to learn so quickly. You have to be aggressive and hopefully I can take that into the Scottish League.
“I am really looking forward to getting started.”
Cosgrove, a 6ft, 3″ target man, has made 33 senior appearances, having started his first-team career at Wigan.
He was loaned to Barrow, Chorley and North Ferriby United before joining Carlisle last summer.
But it is at Pittodrie that he believes he can take his career to the next level.
“I found out about two weeks ago that there was an interest from Aberdeen,” he explained. “As soon as I heard that I was very keen for things to happen as I know Aberdeen are a massive club.
“You can’t help but know about the history of the club.
“Also, I am aware the side have done very well in recent years under the manager and are once again having another good season and are up at the top end of the table, also challenging in the Scottish Cup.
“I did not really need to speak with anyone before deciding to make the move to Scotland.
“I have only been here a couple of hours but have been extremely impressed with how friendly and helpful everyone I have met so far at the club has been. I could not have asked for much more.”
