A PENSIONER has died after being hit by a bin lorry in Edinburgh.
The incident happened around 11:30am on Friday at Piersfield Terrace near to Northfield Broadway in Portobello.
The 90-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for around five hours whilst investigations were conducted by police.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone who can help with ongoing inquires to come forward.
Sergeant Ross Drummond from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “This collision has resulted in the death of a woman and our thoughts and condolences are with her friends and family at this difficult time.
“Our inquiries into the full circumstances of the collision are ongoing and I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and has not yet spoken to officers, comes forward to assist with our investigations.
“Equally anyone with any information relevant to the inquiry is asked to contact us as soon as possible.”
Those with information are asked to contact the Road Policing Unit in Edinburgh via 101, quoting incident number 1360 of 30th March.
