The sun is setting on the summer of Oor Wullie as his BIG Bucket Trail comes to an end.
Statues of Scotland’s favourite son are being taken down across the country to be auctioned off to raise money for Scotland’s children’s hospital charities.
200 specially created Oor Wullie statues were set up in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness for 11 weeks this summer as part of Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail.
The Oor Wullie statues have been a sensation, drawing in an estimated 1.5 million visits to the trail across Scotland.
The first statues to be taken down were in Inverness and Aberdeen early yesterday morning, with Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow’s statues being removed today.
A final send-off is set to be held in each host city from September 13 to 15 and will give the public one last chance to see all of the colourful characters reunited and joined by 33 mini versions, which were designed by schools and community groups.
The unique gatherings will be hosted at Glasgow’s SEC, Edinburgh’s St Andrew’s Square, Aberdeen’s Marischal College Quad, Dundee’s Slessor Gardens and Inverness’s Eastgate Shopping Centre.
The Oor Wullie statues will then be auctioned off the following week from September 16 – 20, at events in Dundee, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Funds raised through auction will support Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and the ARCHIE Foundation, helping children in hospital across the country.
To own a piece of the Bucket Trail and a unique Oor Wullie statue for your home, garden or office, and to help Scotland’s sick children, sign up for the auctions here.
