The team behind Ox and Finch also run Glasgow eatery, Ka Pao, which recently bagged Michelin’s Bib Gourmand award.
Location
Occupying a bright corner unit, the eatery is in the trendy Finnieston area. The SEC or OVO Hydro are only 15 minutes away on foot, making it ideal for a pre-gig meal.
First impressions
High ceilings, original features and trendy decor make the space warm and inviting.
Service
The staff were friendly, attentive and happy to offer tips and recommendations. The room was bustling with activity, but the service was still first-rate.
Menu
The contemporary menu is designed to be shared, with a variety of small plates and sides featuring fresh ingredients and a range of flavours. Separate menus allow for allergies, vegan options and wee ones so there’s something for everyone. Plates arrive as they are ready so if you’re hungry, try not to get jealous if your dining companion’s food arrives first.
Taste
We started with a delicious butterbean hummus, served with flatbread, then tucked into pan-fried tomatoes on sourdough. For our veggie dishes, we opted for a very special plate of roasted jerusalem artichokes, crushed celeriac with roasted pear (trust us, delicious!) and, of course, a portion of chips with vegan-friendly zhug. We also treated ourselves to one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, a delightful, dry-aged beef fillet tail, served with peppercorn sauce. We left stuffed but satisfied.
Ambience
The open kitchen makes for a fun, lively and relaxed vibe.
Price
As well as our shared plates, we also enjoyed two cocktails and a bottle of red. The bill came to a smidge over £110 for two. We considered it a very well-deserved treat.
