The first death of a patient in Scotland with coronavirus has been confirmed.
A patient, who was being treated in the Lothian area and had underlying health conditions, died in hospital having tested positive for Covid-19.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Catherine Calderwood said: “l am saddened to report that a patient in Scotland who has tested positive for Coronavirus has died in hospital. I offer my deepest sympathy to their friends and family at this difficult time.
“The patient, who was being treated by Lothian Health Board was an older person who had underlying health conditions. No further information will be available to protect patient confidentiality.”
The number of Scottish cases of coronavirus has risen to 85, with 25 new patients testing positive in the past 24 hours.
The Scottish Government’s daily update said that, as of 2pm, there had been 3314 tests completed, with 3229 confirmed negative tests and 85 positive.
