Travel: Perthshire’s Pathgreen Glamping bringing the truly glamourous to the outdoors

Many would say glamping – the more luxurious version of staking a tent in the ground – is very much a cheat version of camping.

After bumping our way down a single dirt track in Perthshire and getting a first look at our set-up for two nights, I felt like we had found the cheat version of glamping.

When my husband Chris and I arrived at Pathgreen Glamping in Path of Condie, we were greeted by rolling fields dotted with sheep, goats and horses all surrounding a grassy encampment.

Complete with its own signpost, it felt like an idyllic mini-festival layout.

Which was probably not an accident given its owners Denise and Grant Millar are self-proclaimed festival lovers and campers.

Following the mown path, we passed a bell tent dining area which houses afternoon teas, movie nights and even silent discos for part of the Boho Bride to Be packages.

Also passing a horse box bar, boho loo and the on-site spa, we arrived at the White Clover Pod.

There to greet us was one of the lovely owners Denise.

Taking us around the corner, she showed us our little slice of luxury for the next two nights.

Pathgreen Glamping: The White Clover Pod

Outside the pod, the patio had a generous seating area with a padded swing chair and a wood-fire hot tub.

Tucked around the side, there was also a pizza oven and BBQ while a tall fence provided privacy between the two pods.

After taking in the first-rate view of the sprawling Perthshire hills, we ducked inside.

With a full glass front to the pod, the living and dining area was full of light and beautifully decorated with pastel colours and cosy decor.

This flowed into the kitchen area and master bedroom which had a skylight to ensure the outdoors never felt far away.

The other bedroom with two single beds and the pink and gold-themed bathroom were through the back of the pod.

Once we had finished the tour and Denise had explained everything, she left us to get settled in.

Hot tub and Loch Leven

Only a few seconds later, the complimentary dressing gowns were on and after making dinner, we sat outside to take in the view.

As we ate, we realised we were not the only guests.

A very friendly crow, who I later found out was called Jack, came to say hello – often popping by at meal times.

Of course, the hot tub was calling and once it was warm enough, we enjoyed relaxing in the bubbles with a drink and watching the sunset before sleeping very soundly.

It seemed Perthshire was putting on a show because the next day was gorgeous sunshine.

Loch Leven
Loch Leven.

Putting the weather to good use, we packed up the car and headed to Loch Leven near Kinross for a picnic with our friends Dan and Jess who joined us for the next night.

While there is a 13-mile walk around the loch, we decided to have a shorter, slow wander while taking in the wildlife and looking up the history of Lochleven Castle which famously housed Mary Queen of Scots as a prisoner in 1567.

After a few hours, Jess and I were ready to return for our booked spa treatments.

MeadowSweet Spa

I was first to step into MeadowSweet Spa for my 30-minute Soothe & Nurture Facial (£40).

The spa was beautifully decorated and straight away I felt calm and at ease.

This was further enforced by Denise’s warm presence as she walked me through the Made for Life Organics skincare products she would be using.

As a complementary therapist for many years specialising in palliative and supportive cancer care, Denise knows a lot about putting people at ease and creating a relaxing environment.

And as I lay down on the couch, I knew I was in for a treat.

I partly picked a facial because it would force me to relax (there is only so much talking one can achieve during the treatment).

However, after a heavenly half hour of soothing massage, I decided facials are my new favourite treat.

The facial helped to release a lot of unnoticed tension and I floppily pottered back to our pod feeling the most relaxed I had been in a while.

Pizza making and a Chinese takeaway

After Jess returned from her back massage looking much the same as me, we turned our attention to making pizzas.

Denise kindly dropped off the fresh dough and ingredients and talked me through using the pizza oven. I was ready to become a pizza connoisseur.

Lottie trying to cook pizza
I was not entirely successful in my pizza cooking.

This lasted until about two pizzas in.

Managing to cook some delicious-looking ones for Dan and Jess when the time came for our pizzas, it seemed I had let the oven get too cold.

After trying for another 20 minutes to regain my Italian cheffing skills, we admitted defeat. It was time for plan B.

Which meant Chris driving to pick up some Chinese from the Sunrise Takeaway in Kinross followed by another round of the hot tub.

The verdict

On check-out day, after we finished off with a walk to the nearby waterfall and swam in the plunge pools, it was safe to say it had been a delightful weekend.

Pathgreen Glamping with its gorgeous location, closeness to nature, luxury and all-you-can-want amenities makes it a perfect getaway.

Complimented by Denise’s thoughtfulness and therapy talents, it offers a truly glamorous and unique stay for couples, friends and I would imagine, any lucky bride-to-be.

P.S. Pathgreen Glamping is nestled within the Ochil hills of Perthshire in Path of Condie and is half an hour’s drive away from Perth and 20 minutes from Kinross which is home to Loch Leven. It is dog friendly

Factfile

A pod with Pathgreen Glamping starts at £159 per night.

The hot tub fire starter kit costs £10 per bag and the kindling, firelighters and one pizza kit which makes two Margherita pizzas to cook in the wood fire pizza oven costs £40. MeadowSweet Spa is on-site and has many treatments available here.
