POLICE have appealed to the public for information after a man was left in a critical condition in a Glasgow shooting.
The 29-year-old man was sitting in the passenger seat of a silver BMW at traffic lights on Bilsland Drive, near to Maryhill Road in Ruchill at around 10:20pm on Monday night.
A black car pulled up close by and a passenger of that car got out and shot the man.
The suspect, who was wearing a black balaclava, got back into the car and it sped off in the direction of Maryhill Road.
Police and ambulance attended and the 29 year-old was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he is being treated for his injuries.
Hospital staff describe his condition as critical and the incident is being treated as attempted murder.
A short time later a black Ford Focus S-Max was found burnt out at Craigieburn Gardens, Maryhill.
Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham of Greater Glasgow Division said: “Whoever is responsible for this shooting clearly has no regard for the safety of those living in this busy residential area, and they must be caught.
“We are continuing our enquiries today to establish a motive for this crime, and although we believe that this was a targeted attack and that the 29 year-old man was the intended victim, we are pursuing all lines of enquiry.
“Extensive forensic examinations are ongoing in both Bilsland Drive and Craigieburn Gardens where the burnt-out vehicle was found.”
Police have urged anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area prior to the shooting, any witnesses to the incident, or who has any information whatsoever to contact Maryhill Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 4332 of 16th April.
Alternatively CRIMESTOPPERS can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
High visibility police patrols have been stepped up in the area.
