A MAJOR road was shut down after police discovered a suspicious item, later revealed to be a realistic-looking fake severed hand.
The disturbing discovery was made on the A19 near Middlesbrough.
Cleveland and Durham’s Roads Policing Unit closed the road on Wednesday evening as they investigated the gruesome prop.
Afterwards the unit went on Facebook to explain the closure.
They wrote: “In a nutshell, an eagle eyed diligent member of the motoring public spotted a suspicious looking item in the central reservation.
“Officers have attended and it has been found to be a realistic looking ‘severed hand’.
“No doubt comments will be forthcoming- please!”
Needless to say, users were quick to jump in with some dubious witty responses.
Many went for variations of “do you need a hand with it”, with others opting for “lucky it was armless”.
“Someone will be a-wristed fir this,” another added, with questions also asked about it being a “terror-wrist incident”.
Another commenter said: “Well done to the officer who picked it up. Give your self a pat on the back.”
