A FORMER FBI agent has told of how Donald Trump’s security may have to be bolstered after the Turnberry alert.
Clint Rand, who worked for 23 years as a foreign counter intelligence and terrorism agent for the American security service, said the incident would be of major concern to the secret service monitoring the president’s visit with wife Melania.
Mr Rand said: “If this happened in America, anything coming in over his golf courses would be restricted airspace. The fact this has been ignored would be very serious.
“The person who came in would be prosecuted, but he would be tackled immediately and apprehended. Almost 24 hours later this guy hasn’t been caught, it’s absolutely ridiculous. That speaks to the lax security around Trump.”
Mr Rand said the US president typically appeared to have less security around him than former presidents, but added that may now be tightened up.
He said: “From what I have seen about President Trump’s appearances among crowds, it is his own choosing, but I don’t think he’s that security-conscious and I don’t think that he has the protection that most presidents would usually have.
“He is a contradiction in just about everything. Anything that would seem logical, he defies.
“I would think that his security team would be having a serious discussion.
“If anything ever did happen, it would be catastrophic to the US.”
