It might have been panned by critics claiming it was full of cliches but TV show Emily In Paris is a hit…in Paris.
The Netflix series has won less than rave reviews on both sides of the Channel but last week was the streaming service’s most-watched show in France.
Critics in France had slated the romantic drama for portraying Parisians as “lazy and mean” and delivering an “insulting” version of the capital.
The series stars Lily Collins as a American marketing executive who speaks no French but moves to work in Paris.
The Sunday Post’s TV critic Stevie Gallacher says the show “leaves no national stereotype unplundered”.
However, the series is a hit in France where viewers binge-watched the 10 episodes.
Julia Benke, a corporate lawyer in Paris, said: “I was hooked from the first episode. In fact it gave me the urge to see the city again in a new light. We need things to make us smile in this time of Covid.”
And the star of the show agrees. Lily said: “There’s just been so much darkness for everyone in 2020 – it’s great to make people laugh and help them escape a little.”
