The 30-year-old started his senior career at Livingston and later played in the Premier League for West Brom.
The boyhood Rangers fan played as a youth at Ibrox and has 12 international caps for Scotland.
He told Rangers TV: “It feels incredible. It has been a long couple of weeks but to finally get it over the line is an incredible feeling and I just can’t wait to get the boots on and get started.”
Dorrans’ arrival follows Caixinha’s summer of rebuilding with Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Fabio Cardoso, Daniel Candeias, Dalcio, Alfredo Morelos, Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera also joining the club.
