Linda McCullough was shocked when her three young sons managed to run up a hefty bill online by mistake.
Brothers Lewis, Blair and Rory hadn’t realised they had ordered a number of items from the Apple Store on their computer – as well as making some repeat purchases.
These included buying collectable coins from an app. “It was simply a mistake,” said Linda, from Achnamara, in Argyll. “The boys accidentally made some in-app purchases.”
Their mum couldn’t believe it when the amount totalled about £300. “This is a lot of money and I simply couldn’t afford it,” said Linda. “I just don’t have that kind of cash to spare.”
Linda said that when she approached Apple about the issue she got no joy. “They said they couldn’t refund me as the purchases were for in-app consumables,” she told Raw Deal.
“I emailed them, requested refunds three times and spoke to them on the phone but they said that they couldn’t help me.
“Anyone I spoke to said their hands were tied and they were are unable to process refunds for these particular types of purchases.”
Fed up with getting nowhere, Linda wrote to Raw Deal for help. In turn, we contacted Apple and asked the tech giant to investigate.
The company moved quickly and Linda was delighted to hear she’d be getting her £300 back.
Apple said: “A full refund has been processed for Ms McCullough as an exception.”
Linda said she was grateful to Raw Deal for stepping in. She added: “I am over the moon with the outcome. Thank you so, so much for all your help.”
