Allan McAdam found it easy to deposit money into an investment account – but it wasn’t quite so simple to withdraw it.
Allan, from Edinburgh, recently invested £5,000 with the financial and online share trading firm Starkmarkets.
“I am semi-retired and as you don’t really get much interest on your savings from the bank, I thought I would see if I could get a better return elsewhere,” he said. “I first put about £250 into my account with this company and then I started topping it up.”
However, Allan took cold feet about having so much money tied up in the one place. He tried to close his account with Starkmarkets but he was frustrated when he found the process was not that straightforward.
Starkmarkets emailed Allan back and said: “If it was a simple case of withdrawal, the money would have been sent out a long time ago.”
Allan said he was allocated a dedicated account manager but when he contacted him, he tried to persuade him to invest more money.
“I told him I just wanted my cash back but I felt I was going around in circles.”
In frustration, Allan turned to Raw Deal for assistance. When we contacted the company, the £5,000 was back in his bank account within days.
“They weren’t too happy that I had contacted The Sunday Post about the issue,” Allan said. “But Raw Deal certainly got things moving quickly.
“I can’t thank you enough. I wouldn’t have got there without your help.”
