Joan Gavigan was baffled when her Amazon account was charged for items that she never ordered.
“Someone had used my details to pay for almost £50 worth of products,” said Joan, from Clydebank. “I was fortunate to spot that two payments had been taken from my credit card and it certainly wasn’t me that ordered them.”
Joan feared her account had been hacked. “It looked like the email address associated with my account had somehow been changed by another party,” she said.
At the start of last month Joan messaged the US-based online retail giant to report the incident.
“I received an auto-reply saying that I would be contacted within 12 hours,” she said. “I didn’t hear anything, so a week later I contacted Amazon again.
“I was told it was going to the investigations department and they would get back to me within three days. This never happened, so a week after that I contacted Amazon for a third time with no joy.”
Feeling she was getting nowhere, Joan asked Raw Deal for assistance.
We contacted Amazon on her behalf and asked the firm to investigate.
The good news is that the company swung into action to resolve the issue.
Joan’s Amazon account has been secured and she has been refunded for both transactions in full. On top, she was also given a £30 gift card as a gesture of good will.
Amazon said: “We have contacted Mrs Gavigan and put this situation right.”
Joan said she was grateful for Raw Deal’s intervention. She added: “Once again Raw Deal comes to the rescue of someone who seemed to be getting nowhere fast.”
