Restaurant of the Week: Ardnamurchan, 325 Hope Street, Glasgow

Location

In the heart of the city and in the centre of Glasgow’s Theatreland, its easily accessible and perfectly placed.

First impressions

The décor is contemporary with a few classic touches, and lots of Scottish character thrown in for good measure.

Service

Our waitress was chatty and bubbly, and able to answer our questions on the menu with ease. There was a slight mishap as another waitress, who brought our identical dishes to the table, put them down in the opposite place, and we only noticed we had the wrongly cooked steaks after we started eating. There was very little by way of apology. We ended up suggesting sending the rarer one back to be flashed a bit more – but one of us ended up with a steak more well done than we would have liked. Aside from that, it was all done with a smile.

Menu

It’s good to have options, but with an a la carte, a pre theatre and a Monday night steak and wine special, we found ourselves a little overwhelmed. But, whatever you’re in the mood for, you’re guaranteed to find something to tickle your tastebuds. From haggis, neeps and tatties to venison stew and seafood chowder, there are some sumptuous Scottish dishes on there. If you have any room left for dessert, it all sounds amazing, from a savoury Scottish cheese board to a sweet cranachan. Make sure you accompany your meal with a dram. The list is extensive!

Taste

Divine. All plates are completely cleared. If there was a pattern on them I think we would have licked that off as well!

Ambience

Cool, cosy and relaxed.

Price

Reasonable – and a real treat if you get one of the deals. Our bill came in at £75 for two with drinks.

Toilets

A bit of a trek, but pristine.
