The Neapolitan way is the only way at Paesano Pizza.
Everything is sourced from Italy; from the finest ingredients, to wood-fired ovens designed and built in Naples…and even the pizzaioli in the kitchens.
Location
Bang in the heart of the city, it’s easily accessible by train, bus and on foot.
First impressions
We arrive on a Saturday night to a huge queue snaking out the door, due to the no reservations policy. It’s a popular haunt, which makes us want to eat here even more!
Service
When I ask about how long the wait is for a table, a waiter asks if we mind sitting at the bar. Seating is mostly on long benches and tables beside strangers anyway so we agree and are seated straight away. We would argue the bar is better as the drinks are on tap – right in front of you.
Menu
Simple, yet effective. There are nine different pizzas to choose from and you can switch from mozerella to buffalo or spice it up with chillies. There are a small number of sides diners can add.
Taste
Without doubt, the best pizza we’ve had. We opted for fennel sausage and Italian ham with mushroom and both were delicious. There was no need for sides – the pizzas are the perfect portion size.
Something special
If you like a bit of old-school, make sure you leave room for dessert. It’s like the ice cream van came to the restaurant with a choice of Mr Whippy cones, nougats and oysters, with raspberry sauce and a flake if you like.
Price
Mains, desserts and drinks for two came in at under £40. Cheap and definitely cheerful. You couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces.
Ambience
Busy, but casual. We didn’t feel rushed. The fact that our waitress appeared with a wallet my fellow diner had lost without realising wowed us even more. There’s a real buzz about the place and it’s a really nice experience.
Toilets
A trek down the stairs, but nice.
