Yo! Sushi in Glasgow

Location

In the heart of Glasgow’s city centre, near plenty of bars and shops. Perfect place for an eat-and-run.

First impressions

A slice of Tokyo with a cool, minimalist vibe.

Service

Smiley staff were quick to attend our needs, despite it being very busy. There’s a button to press for assistance, which calls out in Japanese, adding a fun twist to your dining experience.

Menu

Our waitress guided us through the huge menu offering dozens of dishes from hot broths and curries to sushi. You can order hot meals and sides or simply sit by the conveyor belt and lift what you fancy. At the end of your meal they tally up your colour-coded dishes, from £2.50 green bowl to pink bowls for a fiver.

Taste

There was too much to choose from so we ordered a selection to share. The kaiso seaweed marinated mixed seaweed, edamame & carrot in a su-miso dressing was delicious, as was the spicy seafood ramen with plump prawns and plenty of kick. The freshly-made sushi was bang-on as you’d expect. Dorayaki pancakes, with a light custard centre and served with a tangy raspberry coulis were a lovely, light dessert. Our five-year-old is a fussy eater but he wolfed down his pumpkin katsu without a peep.

Price

You have to keep an eye on the amount you consume from the belt – you can get carried away! A meal for two adults and a child with drinks was around £45. All next week, under-12s eat free. (May 27 to June 2)

Ambience

Buzzy atmosphere with an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs making sushi – an art form in itself.

Toilets

Accessed by a stairway but there is also a disabled loo downstairs. Unfortunately, they were a tiny bit on the grubby side.
