County have moved quickly to replace Jim McIntyre, who was sacked on Monday, by naming Coyle as their new boss on a two-year contract. The 51-year-old will be assisted by Sandy Stewart, his former Airdrie team-mate and long-time number two. Coyle has previously played for The Staggies, having spent a three-month loan spell in Dingwall during the 2000/01 season. He made five appearances for the then First Division club, scoring two goals. The ex-St Johnstone boss had been linked with a return to Falkirk after Peter Houston’s departures earlier this week. His last managerial role was at Blackburn, where he endured a rough eight months amid fan protests against the club’s owners.
