LANG may yer lum reek!
You should see the face on my Californian pals when I say that to them.
One of my favourite pastimes is confusing the locals with Scottish patter — and Hogmanay in Hollywood is great for wheeling out the Scottish traditions we all take for granted.
Scoffing a steak pie at 1am and getting tore into the bevvy for four days solid? They can just about get their head around those.
First-footing after the bells might earn a visit from the Los Angeles Police Department, though. Maybe I’ll give that one a miss.
Thoughts are turning to the New Year and I’m already looking forward to 2018.
Awards Season will truly kick off next Sunday with the Golden Globes.
There’s talk this year that the Best Movie category for the Oscars will be the most hotly contested for years – Christopher Nolan’s war blockbuster Dunkirk will likely face off against romantic drama Call Me By Your Name.
Who knows who will win? The only sure thing is that this year they’ll definitely get the envelopes right!
Expect the usual slew of blockbusters from Disney – including a new Avengers movie, a Star Wars film and The Incredibles 2.
The Avengers: Infinity War will bring together the casts from several Marvel movies and feature around 70 characters jostling for screen time.
Half the two-and-a-half hour running time will be the cast names in the credits!
The one I’m really looking forward to is the sequel to one of the best films of all time, Mary Poppins Returns. The fabulous Emily Blunt couldn’t have been a better choice to play the magical nanny.
And with all the technical wizardry on show perhaps they’ll be able to create a chimney sweep with a decent cockney accent…
Of course we’ve got a Royal wedding to look forward to next year, too.
Hollywood showbiz reporters have gone mad for this wedding, probably even more so than the engagement of Wills and Kate – and that’s down to Suits star Meghan Markle.
Prince William might also have to attend the FA Cup final, which is scheduled to be on the same day as his brother’s big day.
That’s why I decided to get married in August – in case Partick Thistle got to the Scottish Cup Final.
Funnily enough, I needn’t have worried…
Happy New Year everyone!
