Islanders on Mull and Iona have brought in a community law centre to fight proposed new parking charges.
Lawyers from Govan Law Centre have written to Argyll and Bute Council to outline islanders’ objections. And they have called on the council to consider the unique aspects of Scottish island life.
Business and community leaders on tiny and historic Iona say £9-a-day parking charges at ferry port of Fionnphort on Mull mean they will pay nearly as much as London’s congestion charge.
Iona Community Council convenor Shiona Ruhemann said: “We’re sad, frustrated and stunned to be in this situation. All we want to do is work in partnership with our council to strengthen our remote island communities.”
