Scot Squad actor Sally Reid has established #grannymail with actor pal Katie Barnett on her social media channels to encourage people to write to older people in society – including her 89-year-old granny Sheila.
Perth actor Sally said: “I wanted to do this as I’m really close to my granny and I just feel helpless that I won’t see her and how lonely that will be for her.
“We used to write letters and I thought how cool for her to get letters from people connected to me that she doesn’t know.
“Now a random selection of people have said they’ll write to her, like my mortgage advisor. People who don’t have elderly relatives have said it was a nice idea.
“Nobody knows what we’re in for. Writing letters is a good, old-fashioned way to keep people in touch. I always send a card to people.
“It’s just a small thing to do for a loved one.
“And maybe at the end of this we’ll have a bash and people who wrote can meet her. We’d have a right do.”
