MANCHESTER UNITED’S latest superkid Scott McTominay looks set to be called up by Scotland Under-21s.
Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho sprung a surprise by naming the 20-year-old attacking midfielder on the bench for United’s recent draw with Swansea City.
McTominay has been tipped to have a huge future at United after impressing for their Under-23s side this season and catching the eye of Mourinho.
He is eligible to play for Scotland and stated last week: “I’m probably more Scottish than I am English.”
Scotland Under-21 manager Scot Gemmill – who is in Croatia for the European Under-17s Finals – has revealed McTominay has been on his radar for a while now.
And he could be set for a call-up for the upcoming European Championship qualifying campaign, which kicks off in September against Holland.
Gemmill said: “We’ve watched him a lot this season. He was sub for the first team recently.
“He’s done well and pushed himself into the first team. He’s definitely a player we’ve been looking at and are well aware of.
“Earlier in the year he was playing as a striker for Man United’s Under-23s, but I have seen him play on the sides and he looks like he can play in a number of positions.
“He was born in 1996, so he’s too old to go to the Toulon Tournament later this month, but he can play for the 21s.
“He’s training at a really good level and playing with top players and United clearly think very highly of him and he’s doing really well.”
