The coronavirus death toll in Scotland has now reached 16, with 584 positive cases confirmed.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the latest numbers as she addressed the Scottish Parliament today.
There has been a rise in 85 cases since Monday, when the official numbers stood at 14 fatalities and 499 confirmed cases.
The latest death toll comes the day after Ms Sturgeon announced “stringent” measures to place Scotland under an effective “lockdown” to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
Today, she advised businesses how they should handle the new measures, while stating it is the Scottish Government’s priority to protect health.
Health Secretary Jeane Freeman later told MSPs that it is likely the actual number of positive cases in Scotland is 2,500.
She added that “good progress” was being made to expand capacity of intensive care units (ICUs), with plans to quadruple the number of ICU beds to over 700.
