DISRUPTION is expected until at least lunchtime on ScotRail services following a ‘low speed derailment’ between Inverness and Aviemore.
An overnight freight train is understood to have come off the rails near Culloden, with work ongoing to get the line open again.
It comes as those planning on travelling on Scotland’s transport networks today are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys with Storm Ali sweeping in.
Train services between Glasgow Queen Street and Inverness will be terminated at and started back from Perth, and all stations between Perth and Inverness will not be served.
Replacement bus services will be offered at Perth at around 10am, while buses are also in place for passengers at Inverness.
As an alternative, passengers can travel between Perth and Inverness via Aberdeen but this will significantly lengthen journey times.
In the north-east, a fault with the signalling system at Dyce is expected to cause delays until 10am.
Train services between Aberdeen and Inverurie may be cancelled, delayed or revised, but tickets are being accepted on Stagecoach North bus services between Aberdeen and Inverness on routes 10, 35 and 37 at the following; Aberdeen, Inverurie, Huntly, Keith, Elgin, Forres, Nairn and Inverness.
Dyce and Insch are not covered.
Ticket Acceptance has also been arranged with First Bus between Aberdeen and Dyce.
