Scots comedian Iain Stirling has been presented with a custom Oor Wullie piece by artist Sleek.
The Love Island narrator said he was “blown away” when he picked up the work, which was personalised with references to Iain’s hobbies, his love of Liverpool FC and his Edinburgh upbringing.
Iain said he loved the detail within the artwork and was “over the moon” to receive the custom piece, which is titled ‘You’ve Done a Stirling Job’.
Classically trained artist Sleek, who keeps his real identity a closely guarded secret, connects street art with pop art to create a fresh new fusion genre.
Having spent months in the DC Thomson archives, he’s produced a number of pieces featuring Dennis the Menace and Oor Wullie inspired designs.
The limited edition pieces for the ‘Nothing But Trouble’ collection were launched in April this year, with some still available to buy.
Art director Bob Corsie, who presented Iain with the special piece, said: “Iain was expecting some personalisation on this original artwork, but not to the level accomplished by Sleek.
“The artist spent a lot of time researching Iain’s hobbies, as well as his past and present career to ensure as many detailed tags could be incorporated within the artwork.
“One of the tags included was Liverpool FC, others are drawn from his roots in Edinburgh, and of course, some tags related to Love Island and other shows he’s been involved with could not be left out.
“That is why Iain was just blown away when he saw it for the first time. This new artwork will make its way to his new home in London that he shares with the equally famous Laura Whitmore.”
BAFTA Award-winning comic Iain is at the Fringe this week with his Work In Progress show.
