Singer Lewis Capaldi and rapper Dave lead the nominations in the Brit Awards shortlist announced last night.
The 23-year-old from West Lothian has secured four nods in the male solo artist, song of the year, new artist of the year and album categories for performers.
On hearing the news, Capaldi tweeted: “Have been nominated for 4 Brit awards.
“Dreams can come true, who said sex appeal can’t get you to the top.”
Rap star Dave is pitted against the Scot in the same four categories, with his album Psychodrama and single Location making the shortlist.
The news tops a whirlwind run for Capaldi who was transformed into a global star last year.
His smash hit Someone You Loved topped the charts in the US as well as at home. He was also nominated for a Grammy.
His debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent also stayed at No.1 for six weeks and he became the biggest-selling British artist of 2019, beating off competition from Ed Sheeran and the cast of The Greatest Showman.
Mabel also secured three nominations, having also been included in the best female solo artist, new artist and song of the year categories.
Stormzy received three nods, with his song Vossi Bop and album Heavy Is The Head both making the shortlist.
Musicians up for the best international male award include Bruce Springsteen and Nigerian singer Burna Boy, while Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey are up for the female award.
