THE SFA have made an official request to speak to Michael O’Neill about the vacant Scotland job, according to reports.
Speculation over his future has mounted after Northern Ireland missed out on a World Cup place in a play-off with Switzerland.
O’Neill has long been tipped as successor to Gordon Strachan, while he has also been linked with the vacant Rangers, Sunderland and US national team jobs.
The Irish FA is set to offer the 48-year-old a new, improved contract amidst the interest from other parties.
The former Brechin and Shamrock Rovers boss took over the Northern Ireland job in 2011 and guide the national team to their first ever European Championships in 2016.
During his playing career, he had spells with Dundee United and Hibs and currently lives in Edinburgh.
He’s under contract in his current role until 2020, thought to be on a salary of £500,000 a year.
