A Scots man has won a national amateur photography competition with this spectacular image of a siskin bird.
Budding Arygll photographer, David Lawson, won homes and garden retailer wilko’s Wild Bird Calendar competition after submitting the breathtaking image.
Even with an increase in the number of entries to the competition thanks to more people in the UK spending time in their gardens during lockdown, David was selected as one of 12 winners to be featured in the official 2021 calendar and was awarded an £100 wilko voucher.
David said: “I was delighted to discover that I had won the wilko Wild Bird photography competition and that my photo would be used in the 2021 calendar.”
Daniel Bingham, Senior Pets Buyer at wilko, said: “With the UK spending more time in their gardens throughout lockdown, we saw a big increase in the number of entries and quality of the photos of wild birds submitted to the competition this year.
“We can’t wait to see the final printed calendar in stores with the vast array of wild bird photography. It was a tough decision as there could only ever be 12 winners, but we were extremely impressed by David’s photo.”
The siskin, according to the RSPB, is a small, lively finch, commonly spotted in Scotland. It has a distinctly forked tail and a long narrow bill.
The 2021 calendar will be on sale in store and available online at wilko.com in late 2020.
