IT’S getting to that time of year when we are all ready for a change of scenery and a week or two away from the 9-5.
If you fancy staying a little closer to home this summer, there are some idyllic coastal gems to consider for your well deserved break.
With poor currency exchange rates and with most of us trying to watch the pennies, there’s never been a better time to opt for a holiday on home turf. Great Britain has some simply gorgeous spots up and down the country that are sometimes overlooked in favour of foreign shores and exotic locations.
Granted, many of us opt for overseas breaks to treat ourselves to virtually guaranteed sunshine – something we can never rely on very much here at home. You never know, the sun might put his hat on for us this year and we can all bask in a Great British Summer!
The beauty of living on this island is that you’re never too far from the coast. Nowhere in the United Kingdom is more than 70 miles from the coast – some of us have little more than a half hour drive to the seaside for some bracing air.
The geography of the UK coastline is made up of a variety of islands, bays, headlands and peninsulas. Stunning scenery, craggy cliffs and peaceful sea views are practically on our doorsteps.
Scotland has some of the most beautiful and dramatic coastal scenery, walking routes and beaches just crying out to be explored and enjoyed. Sometimes we forget the natural beauty we have so close to home and there’s nothing more refreshing than a break in some of these beauty spots, such as Ayrshire, St Andrews, North Berwick and beyond.
Or, travel down the magnificent east coast and there’s rugged coastline to be enjoyed through Northumberland and Yorkshire. Or, if you fancy Wales or the south of England, you won’t be disappointed by the choice of beautiful places to hang your hat this summer.
