It’s a show we’ve seen countless times before…celebrities team up to travel to sunny climes where they drive badly, get lost and try to speak the local language.
But there’s something fascinating about the bromance between Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice as they take a three-episode road-trip around Pernice’s native Sicily that makes you want to keep watching.
The show opens with Du Beke painstakingly trying to order a coffee in Italian, much to the waitress’s dismay. Pernice laughs on – and it sets the tone for the rest of the show.
As they travel around the stunning Mediterranean island, visiting tourist attractions such as Mount Etna and the authentic old towns, and try the local cuisine, the duo’s brother-like love for each other is infectious.
The sequins and glitter ball might be missing, but a tango or two is not uncommon as they miss no opportunity to burst into song and dance.
But, like any bromance, they equally love to wind each other up. At one point, Du Beke guides his travel companion out of a ditch, only for him to drive off and leave him standing on a dirt track in the middle of nowhere.
It’s lighthearted, fun and lovely to watch their friendship grow outside the studio.
Simply bellissima!
