Rangers have confirmed that Kyle Lafferty’s contract at the club has been terminated by mutual consent.
The 31-year-old, who returned to Ibrox for a second spell at the club last summer, was not in Steven Gerrard’s plans for the coming season.
He made 30 appearances for the club last season, scoring six goals.
A statement on the club’s website said: “Kyle leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club for his future career.”
Lafferty fell down the pecking order last season when Jermain Defoe arrived at the club on loan.
He hasn’t been involved in any of the club’s pre-season games and had been frozen out of the squad.
The Northern Ireland international is one of a number of players deemed surplus to requirements, with exits for Jason Holt, Graham Dorrans, Eros Grezda and Joe Dodoo likely this summer.
Daniel Candeias, Lee Hodson, Lee Wallace, Gareth McAuley and Ryan Hardie have all already left the club, while Jak Alnwick, Ross McCrorie, Jordan Rossiter and Eduardo Herrera have been loaned out.
